Tinywhoop tuning: dialing in small quads

Tinywhoops behave differently from 5-inch quads: light, ducted, often without an RPM filter. With a few targeted tweaks they still fly clean and locked-in.

01Start from the right preset

Start from the whoop/tinywhoop preset in Betaflight rather than 5-inch values. Small props and low mass mean much higher RPM and different resonances — the whoop defaults are tuned for that.

02Filters: often without an RPM filter

Many brushless whoops run without bidirectional DShot, so without an RPM filter. Then the dynamic notch and gyro lowpass carry the load — but whoop motor harmonics sit very high, which makes filtering easier.

03PID fine-tuning for light quads

Light whoops usually need less D and react sensitively to too much P (fast buzz). Approach in small steps and pay special attention to clean yaw control.

04For whoops too: verify in the log

Tinywhoops can produce a blackbox log too. Upload it to PIDoctor to see whether your filters hit the high-frequency noise and whether tracking is clean despite the small mass.
