Phase margin
Phase margin is a control-theory measure of how far your tune is from instability — how much extra phase lag (delay) it could tolerate before it starts to oscillate.
Every filter you add costs phase margin (delay); too little margin means a tune that rings or oscillates. PIDoctor estimates Bode metrics like phase margin and Ms from the log to judge stability, not just feel.
